Employees
Every person who logs into your dashboard has an employee account. Everyone starts with the same day-to-day basics, and a manager can hand out a few extra capabilities on top of that as needed.
Manager vs. regular staff
Regular staff can see and work orders, tabs, and the floor layout, the day-to-day of running the floor. Managers can additionally manage other employees and are the only ones who can grant the permissions below to someone else. Managing employees itself is never something a manager can hand off, it always stays a manager-only action.
Permissions
Beyond the day-to-day basics every employee has, a manager can grant a regular staff member any of three extra capabilities, individually:
- Manage restaurant settings, the same settings a manager can reach from Settings.
- Manage sections, editing the floor layout and adding or removing tables. See Sections & tables.
- Manage the menu, editing categories, products, and variants. See Menu.
Grant these from the same screen where you edit an employee. A manager always has all of them regardless of what’s checked, these toggles only matter for regular staff.
Handheld waiter access
A separate pair of toggles, shown in their own group on the same screen, controls whether an employee can place orders directly from a handheld instead of only through a guest’s own phone. See Waiter ordering for what these unlock and how signing in on a dedicated device works.
Adding an employee
From Employees in your dashboard (managers only), add a new one with their name and email. Give them a color, used to visually distinguish staff on the schedule, and decide whether they’re a manager.
They’ll get an email with a link to set their own password. That same link also activates their account, so there’s nothing else for them to confirm separately, they can sign in as soon as they’ve set a password.
Editing or deactivating
Update anyone’s details, including toggling manager status, from the same screen. Deactivating an employee removes their access without deleting their history, useful for former staff you still want past schedule and order records for.
You can’t change your own manager or active status from here, that has to be done by another manager, so a restaurant can’t accidentally lock itself out of management access.
Where employees show up elsewhere
Employee accounts are also what Schedule shifts get assigned to, and what shows up as the “handled by” on orders and tabs where that’s tracked.
