Lists & orders
Two related things happen on the staff side for every table: the table’s tab (called a “list” in a few places), and the individual orders placed within it.
A table’s tab
A tab starts the moment the first order is placed at a table and stays open until staff close it. While it’s open, it can carry a few flags:
- Needs help. A guest requested a waiter. Clear it with Mark helped once someone’s been over, or the guest can clear it themselves.
- Needs payment. A guest asked for the check.
- Wants to close. A guest has indicated they’re done and ready to leave, distinct from asking for the check specifically.
All of these show as visible flags on the Dashboard and in the section floor-plan view, so nothing needs a staff member to notice it on their own.
Closing a tab
Once everything’s settled, close the tab from its detail screen. Closing settles every order on it and clears any open flags. There’s no undo, so this is the last step, after payment, not before.
Individual orders
Each order placed within a tab moves through its own states:
- Placed. Just arrived, needs attention.
- In process. A staff member has started working it.
- Delivered. Done, out to the table.
An order can also be cancelled at any point if something can’t be made or a guest changes their mind. Staff mark these transitions directly from the order in the Dashboard’s active-orders list or from within the tab’s own detail view.
Order messages
If enabled for your restaurant, staff and guests can exchange short messages tied to a specific order, useful for a quick clarification without needing to walk over. This is off by default and turned on per restaurant in Settings.
Delivery
If an order involves an external delivery, its status can carry additional states beyond the usual three, assigned, picked up, in transit, delivered, or failed, shown alongside the normal order flow.
