Receipt & kitchen ticket printing
mozo can optionally print to a thermal receipt printer in two different ways: a guest’s itemized bill, on request, and a kitchen ticket, automatically, every time an order is placed. Both are off by default, and each is turned on separately. Neither replaces your till or POS — see Not a POS for where mozo draws that line.
The guest receipt
Once turned on (a toggle in restaurant settings), staff get a Print Receipt button on a table’s order screen. It prints the table (and section, if the table has one), the itemized order, tax breakdown, and total — no payment is taken or recorded by printing it, it’s just a copy of what’s already on screen. This only needs a printer connected to whichever device staff are using; no extra setup.
Once a tab is closed, the same printer also automatically prints a final copy, this time showing how it was actually paid (cash, card, etc.) and the real total paid, which can differ slightly from the bill total if a tip was included. Unlike the on-request button, this automatic copy needs the same additional setup kitchen tickets do — see below.
Kitchen tickets
A separate add-on (“Kitchen order tickets”, turned on from the add-on store) automatically prints a ticket every time a new order is placed: items, quantities, chosen variants, table, and any note left by the guest. No prices — it’s meant for the kitchen (or bar), not the guest. Each ticket’s header can be customized from that add-on’s settings, useful if more than one station prints off the same setup (a bar ticket labelled “BAR” instead of the default “KITCHEN”, say).
Setting up automatic printing
Both the auto-printed closing receipt and kitchen tickets need a dedicated Android device (an old phone or a cheap tablet works fine) sitting near the printer, running two small apps in the background — printing without anyone at the screen to click a button takes more setup than the on-request receipt does. The full walkthrough, and troubleshooting for the printer-specific quirks that show up along the way, lives on the Kitchen order tickets add-on’s own info page — open it from the add-on store (whether or not you’ve turned the add-on on yet) for step-by-step setup instructions.
A note on hardware
mozo doesn’t sell, ship, or recommend specific printer hardware — whatever your restaurant already has (or picks up) is fine, as long as it’s supported by whichever printing app the setup guide above has you install.
